CaptureVIRGINIA/HOYT LAKES, Minn. NorthRidge Community Credit Union (NRCCU) has fully jumped into a food drive by filling a swimming pool with food for a local food shelf. A credit union member sparked this summer drive by asking if NRCCU was currently accepting food shelf donations. NRCCU usually holds a food shelf drive in both the fall and winter months but decided to hold this summertime drive in the month of June. It has been an overwhelming success. The inflatable swimming pool was filled within the first few hours of the drive. People have been coming in with bags, boxes and even cases of food. There was more participation than ever imagined and those who have benefited from the food shelf during their lives say they just want to give back. Nicholas Mathiowetz, President and CEO of NRCCU, says the event would not have been possible without the hard work and efforts of all those involved. "We would like to thank all of our members, friends and family who came out to donate during the Food Drive Challenge. A special thanks needs to go out to Tammy Maish and Girl Scout Troop 1808 for donating cases of Girl Scout Cookies to get the drive underway. This donation was the catalyst for the astonishing success of this food drive," he said. "I, personally, want to thank the two that were directly responsible for this event, Eva and Marissa from our Biwabik office. Through this event they showed the commitment to our local community that NRCCU strives hard to embody. They have proven that NRCCU truly does live up to the credit union philosophy of people helping people. And a special thank you to Pat who went over and above. We cant thank you enough," he said.
