CaptureFairbanks, AK During its annual Member Appreciation event on Thursday, June 25, Credit Union 1 (CU1) hosted a silent-auction fundraiser at its University Avenue Branch to benefit the Interior Alaska Cancer Association (IACA). The silent auction featured items donated by local businesses, and with the generosity of the community, raised $6,550. This amount was then matched dollar for dollar by CU1, resulting in a donation totaling $13,100, an amount sufficient to support the IACAs clients for an entire year. Founded in 2002 as a response to the hardships faced by cancer patients in Interior Alaska, the IACA helps cancer patients and their families in times of need and educates the community about cancer-related issues. They facilitate a free monthly support group that is open to the public, and also provide direct financial assistance to those affected by cancer. The IACA is an all-volunteer organization, with no paid staff and no rented office space. Over 97% of all donations go directly to patient assistance.
