Educational Employees Credit Union Awards $100,000 in Grants

CaptureFresno, CA - Educational Employees Credit Union based in Fresno, CA, has awarded $100,000 in grants to members for college expenses during the 2015-2016 school year. Fifty members, chosen from 365 applicants, each received $2,000 grants. They were recognized by Derek F. Scharton, EECU's board chairman, and President/CEO Beth Dooley at the credit union's recent annual meeting, which was attended by more than 2,100 members and guests. Grant recipients were selected based on their personal statements, letters of recommendation and school transcripts. Since the grant program began in 2003, EECU has awarded $975,000 in grants to 625 student members attending college, vocational or technical school, or pursuing professional training. EECU has more than $2.3 billion in assets, has 15 branches and serves more than 242,000 members in 10 Central California counties. EECU is the 68th largest credit union in the U.S., the 14th largest in California, and the largest based in the central San Joaquin Valley.
