CaptureMilwaukie, Ore. With the help of its generous members, Clackamas Federal Credit Union (Clackamas) has donated $10,000 for the third year in a row to local nonprofit Mt. Hood Search and Rescue Council (MHSARC). These funds will go toward the purchase of new equipment for use during search and rescue operations. Specifically, the donated funds will be allocated toward the purchase of a specialized gas monitor that will be used to check fumaroles, naturally occurring volcanic vents, for noxious gases that have the potential to cause serious illness or even death. The monitor will allow responders to more easily determine when the aid of HAZMAT is needed, helping to ensure the safety of teams conducting cave rescues on Mt. Hood. Additionally, the money will be used to obtain new lighting for a mission shelter, along with some much-needed equipment for the K-9 team at Mt. Wave Emergency Communications Inc., an Oregon nonprofit that provides radio communication and backup medical support to search and rescue teams. "Because of Clackamas Federal Credit Unions incredible support over the years, we have been able to purchase equipment that we have only dreamed of. The support of Clackamas Federal Credit Union has been invaluable to the search and rescue community," said Sherri Magdlen, Director of Development at MHSARC. An integral part of the Clackamas community, MHSARC works to save lives and to improve search and rescue programs through review of past missions, planning of future missions, coordination of communication, planning, education, and cooperation. "Clackamas Federal Credit Union is very thankful to our members, who made this donation possible.
