United Federal Credit Union Awards Scholarship

CaptureJOSEPH, Mich. United Federal Credit Union (UFCU) has awarded the third in a series of five annual business scholarships to students at Lake Michigan College (LMC). Mark Phillips of Benton Harbor, Michigan, is this years recipient. Mark will receive $1,000 to continue his education. Phillips is majoring in business administration and has completed 71 credit hours. After obtaining his associates degree, the 30-year-old father of three plans to pursue a bachelors degree at Siena Heights University, and eventually earn a Masters of Business Administration. He says he is the first person in his family to pursue a college education. "I felt a real sense of pride when I learned that I had been awarded the scholarship," said Phillips. "I am grateful that UFCU has confidence in me, and my goal to have the education I need to give my family a better way of life." The scholarship funds are part of a $5,000 award UFCU received in 2013 after being designated Outstanding Credit Union of the Year by the Michigan Credit Union League (MCUL). UFCU elected to create a scholarship for business students at Lake Michigan College. "We are committed to the success of Lake Michigan College and students like Mark Phillips," said UFCU President/CEO Gary Easterling. "Marks determination to give his family a better way of life is admirable.
