United Federal Credit Union Sponsors Softball Tournament for Gateway
June 17, 2015
BENTON HARBOR, Mich. United Federal Credit Union (UFCU) has stepped up to the plate again to serve as presenting sponsor of Gateway Services A Play for Gateway Softball Tournament. UFCU Branch Manager Zach Book presented a donation check to Gateway Executive Director Tim Smith.
"UFCU was the first platinum-level corporate sponsor in Gateways 30-year tournament history and we are thrilled they will continue," said Executive Director Tim Smith. "Their involvement allows us to further our mission to improve the quality of life and level of independence of the people we serve."
Gateway is private nonprofit rehabilitation organization that provides habilitation and rehabilitation services to people with disabilities, disadvantages and special needs. Gateway helps people of all ages achieve their potential through therapeutic services, vocational opportunities, training, community life skills and other supports.
This years tournament proceeds will be used to automate the organizations paperwork.
"The new system will save thousands of hours of time and expenses, and allow us to give more time and services to our clientele," Smith added.
The 12-game softball tournament is Gateways main fundraiser. It features corporate teams from across southwest Michigan, including UFCU. The games provide fun for the whole family and are completely unpredictable because anything goes for the right price. For a few extra donation dollars, umpires can be bribed to bend the rules and opposing players can be forced to run the bases wearing props like diving fins and hula skirts, or use alternate batting equipment like plastic rakes and tiki torches.
The A Play for Gateway Softball Tournament takes place on July 24-25 at Planngers Field in Benton Township, Michigan.
