CaptureAURORA, Minn. Each April Embarrass Vermillion Federal Credit Union (EVFCU) offers local youth the opportunity in to participate in CUNAs National Credit Union Youth Month at its three branch offices. Local youth participated in this years Safari Adventure theme and learned special saving tips from fun safari animals. The youngsters were given booklets that included money-focused activities and Youth Month Safari coloring pages. Once they completed these activities, the youth received a safari-themed prize a treat of animal crackers and juice. EVFCU has also chosen to expand the celebration of youth outside by reaching out to the fourth grade classrooms in the three schools in the areas it serves. For the past three years EVFCU has partnered with the local Forestry Service to celebrate Arbor Day, which falls on the last Friday of April each year. Each year EVFCU purchases over 100 Norway Spruce seedlings for the 4th Grade Foresters program for each student. Alex Schwartz, a Silvicultural Forester from the Superior National Forest Laurentian Ranger District accompanies EVFCU Member Service Representative Jennie Erickson each year to present a classroom program on the importance of trees and how to care for the seedlings the students bring home. Students also get a chance to ask questions about trees or a foresters job. The presentation then moves outside where students are able to plant a seedling on their school grounds to put into practice what they learned and encourage them in caring for their tree. EVFCU sees a strong correlation between caring for the seedlings and the savings future of the youth. Planting in a healthy location areas with space to grow, air, water, soil and sunlight will support the needs of the tree and is necessary to successfully nurture the seedlings to encourage growth. The result of the focused attention is a strong tree that will be there for years to come. Attention to detail in caring for their seedling tree is a life lesson resembling what students will each need to practice to encourage their savings to grow for years to come through all of lifes needs and wants. - See more at: http://mncreditunionnews.org/embarrass-vermillion-federal-credit-union-celebrates-national-credit-union-youth-month#sthash.rq1Yr0lD.dpuf
