first westLANGLEY, B.C. As part of the annual BC Childrens Hospital Foundation (BCCHF) Miracle Weekend on May 30 and May 31, First West Credit Union employees, including employees from its Envision Financial, Enderby & District Financial, Island Savings and Valley First local brands, were proud to present nearly $25,000 to the BCCHF. The funds raised boosted First Wests support for the BCCHF to more than $300,000 since 2007. For many employees who have experienced the amazing services offered by the hospital, Miracle Weekend provided a chance to give back and help others. "Supporting the Foundation is a really big priority for First West because the work of the hospital has made a life-changing difference for British Columbiansand for a number of us at the credit union," says Susan Byrom, First Wests senior manager of community investment. "Were proud of the way First West employees give back to the hospital each and every year." In addition to its fundraising efforts supporting BCCHF and Miracle Weekend, First West employees also volunteered as Miracle Makers to man phone lines during the Miracle Weekend, taking pledges and calling donors to thank them for supporting BCCHF. "This cause is near and dear to my heart," says Anita Kauser, who works in credit services for First West Credit Union and has volunteered at the hospital for six years. "My family and I have had many friends who have used the services of BC Childrens Hospital. The hospital gave one family the chance to spend an additional three years with their son, who had cancer. The nurses and doctors at BC Childrens were a second family to him. We also have the joy of knowing several kids who are living full and happy lives now, thanks to the loving care they received at the hospital." First West has a long history of involvement with BCCHF. Since 2007, employees have raised more than $300,000 to support research, equipment and education programs and services that ensure B.C.s kids and families receive the best health care available.Employee fundraising in 2015 included participation in slo-pitch tournaments and BCCHFs Jeans Day.
