St. Anne's Credit Union Sponsors Local Students in Essay Contest and Scholarship Award

CaptureFALL RIVER, MASSACHUSETTS - St. Annes Credit Union is thrilled to be the sponsoring Credit Union of two local students who are being honored by the Cooperative Credit Union League.� For the fourth year in a row St. Annes is the sponsor of one of the winners of the Cooperative Credit Union Leagues Student Essay Contest.� Over 900 seventh and eighth grade students from across the state submitted essays discussing what they felt Credit Unions could teach young adults about financial literacy.� Only 8 winners were chosen and St. Annes Credit Union is very proud that Lauren Paiva, an eighth grader at St. Joseph School in Fairhaven, was one of them!� Laurens essay spoke of the many ways students would benefit from a Credit Union run financial literacy program in school, which would give young adults the tools that they need to manage their finances throughout life.� An award ceremony was held at the State House in Boston on Thursday, May 21st for the 8 winners of the Student Essay Contest.� Lauren attended along with her mother and grandmother, her teacher Mrs. Adele Monticello, the Principal of St. Joseph School Mrs. Faith Piazza, and they were accompanied by 3 representatives from St. Annes Credit Union.� The winners and their parties were given their awards, a tour of the State House, and enjoyed a luncheon with speakers such as The Honorable Alice Hanlon Peisch, House Chairwoman, Joint Committee on Education. St. Annes Credit Union is also very proud to be the sponsoring Credit Union for this years winner of the Southern Massachusetts Chapter Scholarship.� Graduating seniors from across the state were able to apply for the Cooperative Credit Union League Scholarship, and only one winner was selected from each of the six MA Chapters.� Jennie Arruda, (shown in photo) a student at B.M.C. Durfee High School, was chosen as the Southern Mass Chapters winner and received a scholarship to put towards her upcoming college education.� Applicants were asked to submit an essay about a person or event that inspired them, for which Jennie wrote about her father.� St. Annes Credit Union is very happy to congratulate both Lauren and Jennie for all of their hard work and success.
