Carson City, Nev.This year, 114 students applied for scholarships from Greater Nevada Credit Union, and twenty were selected to each receive $2,000 for the 2015-2016 school year. Nearly a quarter million dollars has been awarded to students since Greater Nevada began its academic scholarship program 16 years ago.
"We understand how financial assistance can make a big difference in helping people continue their education," said Greater Nevada President/CEO, Wally Murray. "This year we were able to provide more money to even more students, and theres clearly a need as we also had a record number of applicants."
The scholarship program, sponsored and administered annually by the credit union, is available to Greater Nevada members and their families. Scholarships are awarded based on each applicants financial need, academic performance, community involvement, and educational and career goals. �The scholarships can be used for tuition, course registration, special classes or laboratory fees, room and board, textbooks and class materials. In addition to the 20 recipients, five alternates were named in the event that one or more of the winners is unable to enroll and attend school on a full-time basis during the 2015-2016 school year.
