Valor Credit Union Hosts Financial Reality Fairs for High School Students
May 29, 2015
Scranton, PA - Valor Credit Union, in partnership with the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association, hosted a Financial Reality Fair for students of West Scranton High School and Scranton High School on Wednesday, May 27thand Thursday, May 28th.
The Financial Reality Fair is designed to teach students the value of using money responsibly. It provides an interactive budgeting experience for students to gain practical knowledge about personal financial management in a simulated "real world" environment.
Students were given a career and salary, to learn to use that information to obtain essential items such as transportation, housing, food, phone, insurance, and more. The "Wheel of Reality" gives students an idea of pitfalls and windfalls, such as an unexpected car repair bill or extra birthday money, one might face from time to time. The goal is for each student to spend their money wisely so their budget sheet will balance and they will have money left to save at the end of the simulation.
"This program intends to instill sound financial habits in each student," said Amy Crain, Marketing Manager.
"We are thrilled that Valor is providing our students with the opportunity to learn invaluable financial skills that will help them immensely as they transition into adulthood," said Justin MacGregor, Scranton School District Community Relations Director.
