SharePoint Credit Union Donates $5,000 to Local Technical College

SharePoint Credit Union recently donated $5,000 to the Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) to support the schools monthly Lunch and Learn workshops for the TRIO/Student Support Services program. SharePoint Credit Union is recognized as the communitys trusted financial resource and is committed to promoting financial literacy within the communities in which they serve, to improve their financial wellness. "Partnering with DCTC was a natural fit; we share common goals of promoting financial wellness by offering financial education programs," said Phillip A. Kopischke, SharePoint Credit Unions President and CEO. "We are excited to partner with DCTC to empower their student body with personal financial knowledge they can use as they enter the workforce to improve their finances and reach their goals." TRIO refers to a number (originally three, now eight) of U.S. Federal programs designed to increase access to higher education for economically disadvantages students.� �The goal of the TRIO programs is to increase the rate at which low income, first generation students complete a post-secondary program. DCTC typically serves 160 low income, first generation college students a year.� Students participating in the TRIO/Student Support Services program have the option to attend monthly educational and academic workshops over the lunch hour.� The workshops serve the purpose of creating community, enhancing identification of the program and the institution and increasing retention.� TRIO programs and workshops provide academic tutoring, personal counseling, mentoring, financial guidance and other support necessary for students academic achievement and success.� "We are very excited and appreciative of the support from SharePoint Credit Union.� The inclusion of food in our academic events lends itself to the feeling of community among students, "notes Dora Schumacher, DCTCs TRIO Program Director.
