May 1, 2015
SPARKS, Nev. It is time for spring cleaning and while you are at it, why not sort through old papers to decide what to keep and what to discard?
United Federal Credit Union (UFCU) is hosting a free Community Shred Day at its branch at 1430 E. Prater Way in Sparks, Nevada on Friday, May 8, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The public is invited to bring up to four boxes of paper items to be shredded on site by Iron Mountain Inc.
"Most of us have boxes of documents stored in garages, basements and attics. While you might no longer need them, you need to make sure those items are disposed of properly," said Branch Manager Ben Steele. "Document shredding is an important tool in the fight against fraud and identity theft."
Here are some of the document types that should be disposed of in a secure manner:
- Bills
- Bank statements
- Canceled or voided checks
- Employee documents
- Expired credit cards
- Legal documents
- Medical records
- Old licenses
- Pay stubs
- Receipts
- Tax forms
