Capital Credit Union Awards $7,000 in Scholarships

downloadBISMARCK, N.D. - Capital Credit Union has announced the seven recipients of their annual Howard J. Snortland scholarship awards. The winners were recently announced at the credit unions 79th Annual member event in Bismarck where scholarships totaling $7,000 were awarded. The scholarship was created in honor of Snortland for dedicating 60 years of volunteer service to Capital Credit Union. Snortland was also an elementary teacher and served as North Dakotas superintendent of public instruction. The first scholarship in his name was awarded in 1996, and a total of $86,500 has been awarded to date among 85 students. The students awarded $1,000 scholarships for 2015 are as follows:
  • Ashley Becker, New Salem, is currently a senior at New Salem-Almont High School. She plans to attend the University of Mary in the fall and major in math education.
  • Cameron Dutt, West Fargo, is currently attending the University of North Dakota, majoring in pre-dental.
  • Emily Pillar, Hazen, is currently a senior at Hazen High School. She will be attending North Dakota State University majoring in elementary education.
  • Casondra Rutschke, Zeeland, is currently a senior at Zeeland High School. She will be attending North Dakota State University in the fall, majoring in business administration.
  • Drew Sagsveen, Bismarck, is currently a senior at Bismarck High School. He plans on pursuing a degree in automotive engineering technology from Minnesota State University, Mankato.
  • Ashley Salwei, Bismarck, is currently attending the University of Mary, majoring in psychology and theology.
  • Suzanne Ternes, Strasburg, is currently attending the University of Mary, majoring in early childhood education with a minor in special education.
