CaptureNEW ULM, Minn. SouthPoint Federal Credit Union is proud to announce that Jacob Gangelhoff and Amber Hillesheim, both of New Ulm, Minn. have each won a $500 Scholarship from the Minnesota Family Involvement Council (FIC). This year, the FIC offered $10,000 in college scholarships to Minnesota credit union members. Nearly 700 students applied for the scholarships from credit unions throughout the state. Applicants were selected based on school and community involvement. Students were also evaluated based on their answer to the essay question, "What is your interpretation of the American Dream and how do you plan to achieve it?" Scholarships were given away to students in two categories: Traditional and Non-Traditional. Gangelhoff wrote "The American Dream is different for everyone, but the same thing that all the dreamers have in common is a chance. A chance to do something, whatever it might be." Hillesheim wrote "To me the American dream is being ultimately happy and satisfied and knowing that I made a difference in this word. I believe that anyone, regardless of where they were born or what class they were born into, can attain their own version of success in a society where upward mobility is possible for everyone."
