Albany, NY - Community Resource Federal Credit Unions employees donated $1,500 to Grassroot Givers to install a Little Free Library near an Albany City School in the first half of 2015.
In 2009, Tod Bol of Wisconsin started the Little Free Library program. His idea was for neighbors to share their favorite literature by leaving books in the Little Free Library unit for others to read and return.� In Albany, Grassroot Givers views this program as a way to improve literacy among inner-city school-age children who may not have access to books, either because they cannot afford them, or they because they are not exposed to them at home.
"We are really excited about this program and we cant wait to see where our library will be placed in the community. By exposing children to books and encouraging them to read, children do better in school; they improve their communication, logical thinking, and concentration skills; they learn new things, and they realize that books can be a source of entertainment," said Wendy Meola, Director of Marketing at Community Resource Federal Credit Union.
