CaptureHanscom AFB, Mass. Hanscom FCU staff, family and members made the years first quarterly visit to Fisher House Boston this month, preparing a meal for families of veterans being treated in the Veterans Affairs Boston Healthcare System. Located on the campus of the West Roxbury Veteran Affairs Medical Center, Fisher House is a nonprofit program providing free lodging to the loved ones of veterans receiving care from VA facilities across the country. It has provided more than four million days of lodging since its inception in 1990, and now serves over 17,000 families per year. From its first visits years ago Hanscom FCU made the unique, conscious commitment to preparing all its donated meals right in the Fisher House kitchen, as opposed to off site. Its a practice that has allowed opportunities to hear first-hand from the families. The latest visit included a helping hand from Susan Pascar. The wife of a VA patient, she was grateful to occupy herself with something other than worry for a few hours. "Contributing at Fisher House is an extremely personal commitment for us," said Chairman of the Board Paul Marotta. "It always seems to be the case that we end up feeling like we got more out of the experience than we gave." Hanscom Federal Credit Union, headquartered at Hanscom Air Force Base in Massachusetts, serves 56,362 members across the country and overseas through 17 branches, over 100,000 service centers and surcharge-free ATMs, 24-hour telephone service and a web-based branch. The credit union holds over $1 billion in assets. Hanscom FCU offers members an array of products and services, including free checking and savings accounts, consumer loans and credit cards, investment and insurance services, and mortgages for primary, secondary, and investment properties.
