YMCA Camp St. Croix has received a $550,000 grant from Royal Credit Union (RCU) Foundation to build a new program center that will serve day campers, community organizations and schools. To recognize the RCU Foundations significant contribution, the new building will named in honor of RCU. For over 125 years, the YMCA, a leading nonprofit dedicated to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, has offered camps that give youth unique opportunities to learn powerful lessons in community, character-building, skill development and healthy living. "Camp St. Croix is a year-round camp, outdoor education and retreat center committed to strengthening our community through leadership and character development, adventure learning and life-long skill building," said Amy Schneider, executive director of YMCA Camp St. Croix. "This new partnership with RCU will increase our ability to serve our youth and our community." "Royal Credit Union is committed to giving back and being active in all the communities it serves," stated Rudy Pereira, CEO of RCU. "Each year Royal Credit Union supports hundreds of local charities through donations, events sponsorships, volunteering and participation in fundraising activities. We recognized a few years ago, that if we truly wanted to make an impact we needed to increase our level of giving and from that desire, the RCU Foundation was created." "The RCU Foundation is honored and pleased to support the YMCA Camp St. Croix," said John Sackett, RCU Foundation Board President. "We strongly believe that our future leaders need to be socially and environmentally responsible and the work of YMCA Camp St. Croix does just that. Our purpose is to create a positive impact in the lives we touch and we think the new program center will make that positive difference for the youth and the community." YMCA camps offer a safe, thriving environment for youth and families to experience nature, instill character values and develop lasting relationships. Camp St. Croix provides youth with hands-on outdoor experiences that foster leadership skills and an ethic of environmental stewardship while also serving as a resource to the community with meeting and event space.
