East River Back Pack Program Donation 2014Employees at East River Federal Credit Union in Madison, SD participate in a "Casual Dress Friday's" fundraiser as a way to raise money for a local charity or organization. The funds contributed each week are pooled together in December and they vote on which charity or organization will be the recipient. The chosen organizations this year are Madison's Magical Christmas and the Madison Back Pack Program. Madison's Magical Christmas is a light show put on display by the Zingmark family. Each year, they ask for a free will donation that goes toward the American Cancer Society. This year, during the week of Christmas, donations were designated to the family of Tayden Grohs, a 5-year-old boy who was battling a brain tumor. Tayden lost his battle on December 25th. The Madison Back Pack Program was established to provide meals for children in need over the weekend. In addition to the meals they receive at school, they are also given nutritious meals that cover their weekend meals. "Credit Union employees felt very strongly about both of these organizations this year," states Penni Groce, East River FCU Marketing Specialist. "Our hearts go out to the Grohs family who are having to deal with a second brain tumor for Tayden. We are also aware of the high demand for meals through the Back Pack Program as the need continues to increase every year." East River Federal Credit Union presented checks totaling $414 each to representatives from both organizations last week.
