Credit Union Holds Free Community Shred Day

shred dayRENO, Nev. United Federal Credit Union (UFCU) is pleased to report that a total of 3,020 lbs. of paper was shredded at the Northwest Branch on its recent Shred Day October 16, 2014. "We were thrilled by the number of people who turned out," said Branch Manager Mayte Castro. "Many people said they felt reassured by witnessing boxes of personal documents that has been stored in their garages for years shredded before their eyes in a matter of minutes." In addition to protection from identity theft, the shredding offered an environmental benefit. Iron Mountain Inc. is the largest provider of shredded recycled paper in North America and is AAA certified by the National Association for Information Destruction. "Iron Mountain has recycled and reused the output from our shredding facilities to save over 7 million 50-foot trees annually," said Iron Mountain Operations Manager Miguel Vega. "UFCU had a tremendous turnout. It was the second largest onsite shredding event of this kind that we have ever participated in locally," Members and non-members were invited to bring up to four boxes per person to the event, which lasted for just over four hours.
