CaptureCAMBRIDGE, Minn. A cancer benefit for DeeAnna Schmakel will be held from 4-9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26 at American Janes in Cambridge. Schmakel, who was diagnosed with breast cancer, is originally from the Ogilvie area, and is a nurse at Cambridge Medical Center. She is married to her husband Bill, and they have two children, William 4, and Bennett, 7 months. On July 9, Schmakel underwent a double mastectomy and will receive multiple rounds of chemo. Along with the initial treatments of chemo, she will need to receive monthly treatments for five years. As the family fights for Schmakels health, medical bills continue to accumulate. The Sept. 26 benefit will include dinner from 4-7 p.m.; beer bust from 6-8 p.m.; silent auction from 4-9 p.m. and a live auction from 6-6:30 p.m. Some of the live auction items include two, one-quarter angus beefs; Honda self-propelled rear-bagging mower donated by Olson Power Equipment; four-pack of Minnesota Wild tickets; autographed jersey from the Minnesota Lynx; handcrafted quilts from local churches; and a brand-new pony saddle, stand and bridle donated by the Pierson family. Silent auction items include a wide variety of gift certificates, handcrafted gift items and gift baskets. Some of the gift certificates include Crystals Photography, Napa, BP Gas Station, Braham Floral, Main Avenue Hair and Body in Braham and many more. If you are unable to attend the benefit, but would like to make a financial contribution, a benefit account has been set up at Minnco Credit Union, under DeeAnna Schmakel Benefit.
