Auburn Hills, Mich. Genisys Credit Union, which provides services to anyone who lives or works in the Lower Peninsula, recently funded the 2014 Dianne Addington Community Leadership scholarship to local Baker College student, Michael Vickers. "We are grateful to be able to assist students in their academic career," said Jackie Buchanan, President and CEO of Genisys Credit Union. "We wish Mr. Vickers the best of luck with his future endeavors." This $2,000 scholarship was created in honor of former CEO, Dianne Addington, who retired in 2010. Addington served on many boards in the community throughout her career, including the Baker College of Auburn Hills Board of Regents. Vickers was selected as the recipient of this award due to his passion to give back to his community. Vickers serves as a Pastor for a church located in Pontiac, MI. In addition he works closely with The Baldwin Center and Hope Warming Center by volunteering to help serve food to local residents in need and by working to motivate individuals who did not complete their high school degree, to prepare and take the GED test. "I am honored to receive this scholarship for something I love doing. It is so wonderful for others to recognize the importance of volunteering," said Vickers. Vickers is currently pursuing a bachelors degree in Human Resources at Baker College. It is his aspiration post- graduation to run a homeless shelter and feeding center to assist those in need in his community. "Baker College of Auburn Hills is very proud to have Mr. Vickers as a student and graduate of our institution. While juggling the responsibilities of a busy family life, a professional career, and significant community involvement, Mr. Vickers was able to successfully complete his associates degree", said Dr. Pete Karsten, Campus President Baker College of Auburn Hills. "We are pleased that he is returning to Baker College to obtain his bachelors degree. I am thankful for the support of Genisys Credit Union in providing an annual scholarship to a deserving Baker College student." This is one of several scholarships that Genisys Credit Union offers to collegiate students. Throughout the year Genisys Credit Union provides a scholarship for Cleary University degree-seeking students that serve their communities as volunteers and leaders.
