Lockheed Martin was a co-sponsor of the program. Held each summer by the FAA across dozens of U.S. cities, the ACE Academy is designed to help middle school and high school students learn more about aviation and related technical careers in the aviation industry. Participants enjoy interactive experiences including the use of flight simulators, field trips to aviation sites, and fun exercises that teach aviation history, physics of flight, and aircraft design and maintenance. The ACE Academy was held in Compton, California, near LAX International Airport. During the weeklong aviation educational camp, professionals from the aerospace industry gave students a crash course in aviation history, the physics of airplanes, and shared career opportunities and needed skills in the aviation industry. Students were able to ask questions and see firsthand how their education in disciplines such as math, science, physics, and technology are applied every day. "At SkyOne, were always looking for new ways to support our members and the community," said Dina Earl, SkyOnes Business Development Manager who attended the event. "The ACE Academy is a fun way to educate kids and teens about aviation, and open their eyes to careers in the industry as they look to their future." Ms. Earl provided students with an overview of credit unions and the importance of financial literacy. A strong supporter of financial education, SkyOne recently hosted the Bite of Reality Financial Workshop, an educational program created by the Richard Myer Johnson Foundation for kids and teens.
