Lowell Spinners 082114 HeroHanscom AFB, Mass. Hanscom FCU honored its latest Hero Among Us of the summer recently, joining the Red Sox Class A affiliate Lowell Spinners to thank Marine Leo Corrigan. Corrigan joined the Corps to serve in Vietnam and saw three tours with a rifle platoon before being wounded, but his fellow combat veteran and friend Gerald Maker actually nominated him for his actions after returning from war. Corrigan has spent 30 years volunteering at the VA Medical Center in Bedford, Mass., supporting other veterans as they battle post-traumatic stress, substance abuse and other challenges. Corrigan was honored at a recent Spinners game with friends and family, receiving special recognition during a pre-game ceremony that included throwing out the first pitch, followed by taking in the action from a luxury suite. "Leos service in Vietnam as a soldier is worth honoring in itself," said Chairman of the Board Paul Marotta. "But the veterans hes helped since coming home say his most important service has been as a man and friend. Were happy to help say thanks to a true hero." The Heroes Among Us program was created in 2012 and relies on community submissions and nominations from throughout the Merrimack Valley and beyond. Hanscom Federal Credit Union, headquartered at Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass., serves 53,975 members across the country and overseas through 17 branches, over 100,000 service centers and surcharge-free ATMs, 24-hour telephone service and a web-based branch. The credit union holds over $1 billion in assets. Hanscom FCU offers members an array of products and services, including free checking and savings accounts, consumer loans and credit cards, investment and insurance services, and mortgages for primary, secondary, and investment properties.
