RENO, Nev. United Federal Credit Union employees and volunteers with the Northern Nevada Heart Walk teamed up on Friday, August 15 to clean up Thomas Creek Trail in Galena. Nearly a dozen volunteers used rakes and shovels to clear rocks, brush and debris from the trail in an effort to widen and improve hiking and biking access.
"Our employees were thrilled at the opportunity to give back to this community in a big way," said Danny DeLaRosa, UFCU Market Vice President Nevada. "Thomas Creek Trial is a beautiful, natural amenity that we are blessed to have in our backyard. It was well worth putting in some sweat equity in order to support kids and families enjoying the outdoors together."
While the volunteers were cleaning up the trail, a hiker and bicyclist remarked that they were happy to see the effort being made to improve the safety of the trail and were excited to bring their families in the future. Thomas Creek Trail is a favorite destination for fall foliage seekers. It follows Thomas Creek, providing connection to the Dry Pond Trail at mile 1.5 or the Mount Rose Wilderness at 3.9 miles. Many trail visitors enjoy hiking, mountain biking, walking their dogs, horseback riding and even snowshoeing in the winter.
