untitled Credit unions Miracle Jeans Day fundraising has exceeded goals twice! Williston, ND - When Western Cooperative Credit Union commits to a cause, they go all out for it. This is evident in the many community projects and charitable donations that they contribute time and money to support. But one of their favorite charities is the Miracle Jeans Day event that is approaching on September 10. Western Cooperative has connections to the Childrens Hospital in Fargo. They have had some employees with children who have been treated there and their employees are aware of how many kids the Fargo Hospital helps each year. The credit union only registered for this event a little more than a week ago and they have already smashed their initial goal of raising $1,000. In fact, because of the generous support of their employees, (most of whom make the $25 donation to receive the Miracle Jeans Day T-shirt) the credit union reached that goal in a mere two days. So, they raised the goal to $1,500. They passed that goal a few days later, and are now sitting at 105% of their fundraising goal and they are thinking about raising it again! I asked Sarah Slininger, Westerns Marketing Manager, how they have been able to make this event such a huge success at their credit union. Slininger says, "Melanie (Stillwell, WCCUs CEO) and I have been mulling over how to describe our MJD success, and we honestly have to attribute it to our extremely generous employees. It seems whenever we need donations or pool money for a cause, we have a great turn out! We just raised $857 for school supplies this fall, and we have raised thousands of dollars for employees with health issues. Once we even raised money for an employee whose camper went up in flames! She continues, "The competition aspect is another piece of our success; our employees love a challenge, especially if it is for a good cause. We loved how (last year) North Dakota credit unions were competing amongst each other, AND against South Dakota! And of course, getting to wear jeans and a cool t-shirt to work is always a huge bonus!" Regarding their goal, Slininger says she knew $1,000 was an easily attainable goal, but wanted employees to be excited when they achieved it. After that, she says raising the goal wasnt a hard choice either, because it further motivated their staff to work even harder to get to that goal too. "We still have a few weeks before Sept. 10th - so maybe we will raise the goal again to $2,000!" she added. Last year, Western Cooperative CU raised $1931 for Miracle Jeans Day! Raising the goal to $2,000 does not seem at all impossible for this credit union!
