Credit Union Collecting School Supplies for Students in Need

Portland, Ore.Unitus Community Credit Union is encouraging local residents to donate backpacks and other school supplies to young students in need as part of its tenth annual Back-to-School Supply Drive. The donations can be dropped off at any of Unitus eight branch locations throughout the month of August and will equip low-income children with essential school-related items their families cannot afford.
"Every child deserves to have the basic tools to be successful in school," said Aimee Berg, Community Marketing Coordinator at Unitus. "Were asking our employees, members and local residents in the Portland Metro Area (including East Vancouver and Salem) to help us make sure low-income students at local Title 1 schools are ready on day one for the classroom." Berg noted that Unitus employees will also help raise money and contribute supplies for the drive through various credit union-sponsored activities.
School supplies needed include: new backpacks, pencils, erasers, colored pencils, pencil sharpeners, scissors, lined loose-leaf paper, crayons, glue sticks, rulers, notebooks and markers.
Unitus will distribute all supplies collected during the drive to the following Title 1 schools:
- West Tualatin View Elementary School
- William Walker Elementary School
- Sacramento Elementary School
- Lot Whitcomb Elementary School
- WL Henry Elementary School
- Mill Plain Elementary School
- Hoover Elementary School
