Great Falls, MT - Kids in the Boys & Girls Clubs summer program had the opportunity to explore "the land before time" this summer, courtesy of Montana Federal Credit Union. Club kids took a field trip to the Old Trail Museum in Choteau to learn about fossils, prehistoric creatures and the history and culture of the Rocky Mountain Front.
"Many of the kids in the Club would never be able to have the opportunity to experience a place as culturally significant as the Old Trail Museum," stated Sonya Smith, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cascade County. "Combining teachable moments with fun, exciting and interactive field trips is one of the ways we try to instill a love of learning and personal responsibility into our Club kids."
The local Boys & Girls Club tries to take program participants on one field trip each week during the summer months, but budget constraints limit what all they are able to do. This summer, the Club has been able to take kids to Ryan Dam and Centene Stadium, explore downtown Great Falls, several trips to the Westside Orchard Gardens, and numerous trips to the swimming pool.
"When we heard the Boys & Girls Club was exploring ways to open up opportunities for the Club kids, we knew this was a way we could positively make a difference for these kids," stated Becky Timmons, Vice President of Marketing for Montana Federal Credit Union and board member for the nonprofit organization. "The Boys & Girls Club does so much good and touches so many families in our community, we wanted to give them a little boost this summer."
