Credit Union Supports Local Humane Society
August 19, 2014
MIDLAND, MICH. Employees at Dow Chemical Employees Credit Union raised more than $260 for the Humane Society of Midland County through their most recent "Jeans Day" fundraiser. For each of the one-day fundraisers, which occur throughout the year, participating credit union employees donate a minimum of $5, which entitles them to wear blue jeans, tennis shoes and logoed attire to work that day.
The Humane Society of Midland County is a nonprofit organization that runs the Humane Society of Midland County Shelter and focuses on the care and adoption of homeless pets in Midland County. The group also runs the Pet Pantry, which provides pet food to local residents during difficult financial times to help them retain their pets and ensure they are fed.
"We truly believe in giving back to all members of our community," said DCECU President/CEO Dennis Hanson. "Our fundraisers and volunteer events are completely driven by the passion of our employees. By supporting organizations that assist those who need it most and often cant advocate for themselves, we know we are helping to make the world a better place."
In addition to its charitable fundraising, the credit union also recently raised $315 in a separate Jeans Day fundraiser to support the Michigan Credit Union League Legislative Action Fund (MCULLAF), which provides opportunities for individuals to contribute to federal candidates who support the principles of the credit union industry.
Already in 2014, the employees have raised more than $1,500 for charitable and community organizations through regular Jeans Day fundraisers. In addition, staff members have organized and participated in service activities such as roadway cleanup projects and Habitat for Humanity volunteer events.
