Credit Union Awards $10,000 in Scholarships

081514EagleCommunityCUEagle Community Credit Union in Lake Forest, CA recently awarded a total of $10,000 in scholarships to three Orange County students.

Andrew Shensky, 22, of Yorba Linda, CA was the first-place winner in the 2014 Eagle Scholarship Awards program and received a $5,000 scholarship. Stephany Bradford, 25, of Cypress, CA came in second and received $3,000. Seventeen-year-old Christin Hickman of Aliso Viejo, CA was the third-place winner and received a $2,000 scholarship.

Shenksy is majoring in anthropology at California State University, Fullerton. Hickman plans to study nursing at Brigham Young University in Utah.

"As a long-standing Eagle Community Credit Union member, I have only had positive experiences in terms of service and account security over the years," said Bradford, who is attending Boston University and majoring in accounting. "Receiving a scholarship from Eagle has only made an already amazing banking experience even better by adding a personal element. I am extremely grateful to have been selected for their scholarship."

Each year, Eagle CU awards scholarships to members pursuing a college degree. Applicants must submit transcripts as well as an essay explaining why they think they should receive a scholarship, in addition to an application. Recipients are selected by credit unions scholarship committee.

To date, the credit union has contributed nearly $150,000 to local students furthering their education.
