sky oneLOS ANGELES, CA SkyOne Federal Credit Union has announced it has expanded its partnership with the National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA) to provide college scholarships to students whose families are NATCA members primarily FAA engineers and air traffic controllers. Specifically SkyOne contributed towards the 2014 Presidents Scholarship the largest of scholarships offered by NATCA. Each year NATCA awards several scholarships to the children of NATCA members, and the Presidents Scholarship is awarded to the most promising scholarship applicant. SkyOne, which has long been the preferred credit union for NATCA, will provide financial support of the program for which many of SkyOnes own members also qualify. "SkyOne was looking for additional ways to help the families of the air transportation industry, and in particular provide assistance with paying for the escalating costs of college tuitions," said Eileen Rivera, President/CEO of SkyOne Federal Credit Union. "While good long-term financial planning and saving is a key part of parenting, sometimes its not enough and many of our members dont qualify for financial aid." "Partnering with NATCA was a logical step for SkyOne based on our strong and long-standing relationship" explained Ms. Rivera. "SkyOne has proudly been the preferred credit union for NATCA members for many years, and its an honor to expand this partnership through a national college scholarship program." Victoria Velasquez (photo left) was the 2014 winner of the NATCA Presidents Scholarship. Her father is not only a NATCA member, but also happens to be a SkyOne Federal Credit Union member. According to Ms. Velasquezs scholarship essay, her father has helped her to understand the importance of fighting for the rights of groups and individuals, and has inspired her to eventually serve as a civil rights attorney. Ms. Velasquez is currently studying business and political science at the University of Notre Dame, and plans to go to law school. To learn more about SkyOne Federal Credit Union, visit www.SkyOne.org or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/SkyOne.org.
