BINGHAMTON, NY -- The Southern Tier Credit Union Alliance (STCUA) announced a new partnership with Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse (CHOW) to launch a mobile farmers market that will provide over 10,000 meals to children and families in need this summer.

A retro-fitted school bus has been turned into a mobile food pantry, which will travel throughout Broome County and offer access to nutritious foods, with a focus on youth who would otherwise go without healthy meals during the school break. In total, the bus will provide up to 1,600 lunches and 10,400 meals this summer.

The STCUA has donated over $3,000 to cover the cost of the 1,600 USDA approved lunches for children during the months of July and August and will provide volunteers to distribute the meals. STCUA will also donate reusable bags filled with financial information for all ages.

"It is our pleasure to continue our relationship with CHOW by supporting the new bus project," said Mario DiFulvio, President of the Southern Tier Chapter of Credit Union Association of New York Credit Unions. "Weve previously worked with CHOW by volunteering at the CHOW Garden, helping to plant and grow fresh foods, and this new project brings it full circle for us as we help to distribute the food to those that need it in our communities. The mission of CHOW and especially this new bus project aligns with the credit union movement's social purpose of People Helping People and we are excited about helping our communities in such a meaningful way."

The Southern Tier Credit Union Alliance is comprised of Chen-Del-O FCU, Empower FCU, GHS FCU, Horizons FCU, SEFCU, Sidney FCU, UHS Employees FCU and Visions FCU. The mission of the Alliance is to create awareness of credit unions and to educate the community about the credit union movement through public relations, marketing and community involvement.

CHOW feeds the hungry throughout Broome County through its network of over 30 food pantries and over 35 soup kitchens and community meal programs. CHOW distributes approximately two million pounds of food each year.
