Hero Among Us J MartinsHanscom AFB, Mass. Hanscom FCU is proud to once again be partnering with the Red Sox Class A affiliate Lowell Spinners to honor local military men and women through the Heroes Among Us program, beginning recently with extraordinary honoree Jonathan Martins. A Corporal in the Marine Corps from 2009 to 2013, Jonathan received the Medal of Valor for his lifesaving decisions and courage as a squad leader during two tours in Afghanistan. Before taking in the June 26 Spinners game with his friends and family from a luxury suite, he had the opportunity to take batting practice with the team, be recognized during a pre-game ceremony and throw out the first pitch. "We all know a day at the ballpark is hardly enough thanks for Jonathans incredible service, but we can try to make it the most special day at the ballpark possible,"said Hanscom FCU Chairman of Board Paul Marotta. "We all just hope he and his family get at least some sense of just how appreciative his community is." The Heroes Among Us program was created in 2012 and relies on community submissions and nominations from throughout the Merrimack Valley and beyond. Additional winners will be honored at games later this summer. Hanscom Federal Credit Union, headquartered at Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass., serves 53,975members across the country and overseas through 17 branches, over 100,000 service centers and surcharge-free ATMs, 24-hour telephone service and a web-based branch.
