Credit Union Helps Make Citizenship Dreams a Reality

CPCUSomerville, MA - CPCU Credit Union, a credit union with an 86-year legacy of assisting the immigrant communiy in Somerville and Cambridge, is launching an interest-free microloan for individuals within their field of membership that are applying for citizenship. The loan titled the Dreamer Loan, will provide local immigrants who are legal permanent residents with the financing they need to make their citizenship dreams a reality. Citizenship applications cost $680 per applicant and the fee must be paid upfront when the application is submitted. The Dreamer Loan will offer applicants the ability to apply for citizenship without causing a financial burden. The loan will feature ten easy monthly payment of $70 each and is available for individuals with and without credit. CPCU has partnered with Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers (MAPS), which is a member ofthe Greater Boston Citizenship Initiative (GBCI) to promote the Dreamer Loan at their six facilities. MAPS frequently works with GBCI to host citizenship drives in the local community where they educate community members on the process and requirements for citizenship. MAPS assists individuals with the application process, which can be quite cumbersome and confusing. "We are very pleased to once again partner with MAPS to provide the financing necessary to help individuals and families in our community become US citizens. This is an important step in anyone's life, one that will provide prosperity and well being. We are glad to be able to help someone achieve their dream of becoming a US citizen," commented Rui F.
