Credit Union Supports Youth Financial Education

bhfcu School Presentations PhotoRapid City, SD - Financial literacy is essential at any age, and Black Hills Federal Credit Union recognizes the unique importance of educating youth on practical money skills. Throughout the 2013-2014 school year, the credit union visited 70 classrooms and provided a financial education to more than 2,000 students. From preschool children to high school seniors, and adult transition students alike, area youth learned a variety of financial topicslike how to establish credit, the importance of saving, and what it takes to get a loan. "I know we are making a difference in our community by dedicating time and resources to youth financial education," said Kylene Casanova, membership development coordinator at Black Hills Federal Credit Union. "The topics we cover in classrooms will impact students every day of their adult lives, regardless of the career path they choose." Casanova, the driving force behind BHFCUs financial literacy program, was recently awarded the honors of Top Classroom Presenter and Top Number of Students Reached by the Credit Union Association of the Dakotas, an organization representing credit unions in both North and South Dakota. Established in Rapid City in 1941, Black Hills Federal Credit Union is a member-owned, not-for�profit cooperative serving more than 59,000 members. The community-chartered credit union has Member Service Centers in Rapid City, Custer, Eagle Butte, Hot Springs, Pierre, Spearfish and Wall, South Dakota.
