Credit Union Employees Recognized for Volunteer Work

volunteersIndianapolis, IN - Indiana Members Credit Union (IMCU), Central Indianas largest credit union, is excited to announce that two business development employees received awards at the annual Leadership and Volunteerism Summit which honors individuals, companies and non-profits who exemplify Leadership and Volunteerism.� �The event, hosted jointly by The Central Indiana Corporate Volunteer Council (CVC) and United Way of Central Indiana, took place on April 22, 2014 at Barnes & Thornburg in Indianapolis. Shallon Vandervort, IMCU business development coordinator, was awarded with the 2014 Live United Volunteer of the Year Award.� The award recognizes the excellence and impact of a volunteers contributions and commitment to community service.� Vandervort was honored for her volunteer service at Riverside Elementary School IPS #44, where she volunteered weekly with a kindergarten class.� In her four years of volunteering with the kindergarteners, Vandervort has done everything from tutor the students with math and reading activities to volunteer with uniform distributions, food drives, and more.� She also developed and implemented a student incentive program where the students earned Indiana Members Credit Union "Dollars", which teaches financial literacy skills and promotes good student behavior. Jennifer Newby, IMCU director of business development, received the inaugural 2014 Corporate Volunteer Council Presidents Award.� This award was established to acknowledge a member of the Central Indiana Corporate Volunteer Council (CVC) who exemplifies the true meaning of volunteerism and willingness to assist when called upon.� Newby serves on the CVC Executive Committee as the vice president of programming.� In her role, shes responsible for organizing relevant speakers and planning the CVC meetings and events. "Hoosiers are known for their willingness to give back and make a difference.� So many community volunteers are changing our community and improving lives.� This is an important way to recognize and thank them," said Alan Witchey, director, United Way of Central Indiana's Volunteer Center.
