Credit Union Awards $3,000 in Scholarships

westerlyWesterly, RI - Westerly Community Credit Union recently awarded (3) $1000 scholarships to local students of Chariho, Prout and Wheeler High Schools. Paige Pajarillo was awarded the Westerly Community Credit Union- Joseph N. Cugini Scholarship. The Joseph N. Cugini Scholarship is named on behalf of the Credit Unions former president, CEO and Chairman of the Board, Joseph Cugini. Cugini retired in 2000 after 41 years of service to the Credit Union. Paige is a graduate of Chariho High School and will be attending Boston University in the fall to study Biomedical Engineering. The scholarship was awarded at the High Schools Awards Ceremony by Gerry Gleason, of the WCCU Board of Directors. Catherine Small of Westerly was awarded the Westerly Community Credit Union- Robert M. Bewlay Memorial Scholarship. The Robert M. Bewlay Memorial Scholarship is named in honor of the Credit Unions former Vice President, Robert M. Bewlay for his 35 years of dedication and service to the Westerly Community Credit Union. Small is a graduate of Prout High School and will be attending Emmanuel College in the fall to study Psychology. She was awarded the scholarship at Prouts Award Ceremony by WCCU Board of Director, Dawn Smith. Joseph Cherenzia was awarded the Westerly Community Credit Union Vocational Scholarship. The Westerly Community Credit Union Vocational Scholarship is awarded to a graduating High School Senior who will be attending a Vocation Credentialed Program upon graduation. Joseph will be studying Automotive Service Technology Management at New England Institute of Technology in the fall. He was awarded the scholarship at the Wheeler High School Award Ceremony by WCCU Board of Director, Danny Nesmith. The following High Schools participate in the Westerly Community Credit Union Scholarship program, Chariho, Exeter West-Greenwich, Narragansett, Prout, Stonington, South Kingstown, Westerly and Wheeler High Schools. Applicants or their parent/guardian must be a member of the Westerly Community Credit Union to be eligible. The Westerly Community Credit Union Board of Directors and staff, wish these graduates congratulations and the best of luck!
