american1Brooklyn, MI - The Columbia Township Fire Department will be conducting vehicle fire training exercises thanks to a donation from American 1 Credit Union. The vehicle, a 1998 Dodge Caravan, was donated and transported Thursday, June 5. The training exercises will take place at a later date. Shawn Lutz, Columbia Township Fire Chief said before this type of exercise is conducted the vehicle is prepared by removing certain items for safety reasons. On getting the vehicle Lutz said "We dont get these types of donations all that often and to be able to get a donation like this and conduct live vehicle fire training for our firefighters is awesome." Before the fire training, the van will be used for vehicle extrication and patient removal technique training. Lutz said "We want to make sure we get every ounce of training we can out of the vehicle." The vehicle being used for training by the Columbia Township Fire Department was a former fleet vehicle for American 1. The van was past its serviceable life, and before it is scrapped and recycled American 1 wanted it to benefit another organization. The ability to assist fire fighters with their training helps the department, and the residents in the communities they serve. American 1 is proud to partner with the Columbia Township Fire Department in their vehicle fire training. American 1 Credit Union serves over 50,000 members through 13 branches in 7 counties.
