suzukiviolinEach year at the Annual Credit Union Association of the Dakotas (CUAD)Summit, a local charity is selected to benefit from the generosity of our credit unions. This years charity of choice was the Suzuki Principle Violin Training program. During the Summit, CUAD accepted monetary donations on their behalf, which were collected in a violin case that was on display at the registration table. The final amount collected was $570, whichwas delivered to the charity on Tuesday, June 10. Summit attendees enjoyed a demonstration on the violin by a youngster who is benefitting from this program during the luncheon last Thursday. Some studies suggest that one in five children experience behavioral problems that place them at risk of failing in school and in life. The hope is that the musical training provided by this charity will help the childrens development and avoid any mental health concerns. Family support is part of the program. Each family is matched with a family health coordinator to build connection and stability at home. They work directly with individual families on wellness and parenting strategies. The program provides family-based assessments and intervention services based on specific needs. It costs $1,000 to provide a child with one year of violin instruction and a family health coordinator, and there are 400 kids currently in the program.
