affinityBasking Ridge, NJ- April TK, 2014 - Affinity Federal Credit Union is proud to continue its financial literacy workshops for developmentally disabled students at JP Stevens High School. The two workshops will take place on May 13 and 22, 2014. Affinitys mission in conducting the seminars is to build basic life skills that are essential to the students in their everyday lives. Affinity Federal Credit Union Foundation has been teaching valuable financial literacy and life lessons to the students of JP Stevens High School for two years. The seminars are dedicated to teaching essential life skills such as how to fill out a deposit slip, standing in line patiently to make a deposit and waiting for the receipt, ATM skills, debit card use and responsibility, and identity theft protection. The goal is to inform developmentally disabled children about the reality of the financial world, as well as how to effectively use the resources around them. The workshops will also focus on how to keep personal information safe and how to avoid problems such as credit card and debit card fraud. The workshops will be held by two designated Affinity employees, but other employees are invited to join the lessons as a guest. The Edison High School teaching team also helps out in role-playing with the students. Each session begins with a review of the materials from the last lesson, and a brief overview of what was discussed. Edison High School greatly appreciates the time and effort put forth by Affinity in helping to better the financial lives of the developmentally disabled students.
