typhoonHUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. NuVision Federal Credit Union announced that employees at its 14 branches across Los Angeles and Orange Counties have raised over $1,500 for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan, one of the strongest tropical cyclones ever recorded, in the Philippines. The money will be donated to AmeriCares, a non-profit emergency response and global health organization. AmeriCares has provided more than $19.7 million in aid to the Philippines since Typhoon Haiyan struck on November 8, 2013, helping to meet the immediate needs of survivors and restore primary health care. The credit union has been organizing "casual day" sticker sales and other fundraising activities among its employees for the benefit of the typhoon victims. For two months, employees had the opportunity to purchase "casual day" stickers for $5, which enabled them to wear jeans along with a NuVision logo shirt on Mondays and/or Fridays. The credit union raised additional funds by auctioning off NuVision logo shirts to the highest bidders. "While most of our charity work is centered around the communities we serve, when we heard the news of this horrible natural disaster we wanted to do something to help the many victims rebuild their lives," said L.J. Tarman, Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations at NuVision Federal Credit Union. "As always, our employees rose to the occasion to make an important contribution to this very meaningful cause."
