Oregon Community Credit Union, in partnership with Access Information Management and KEZI 9 News, held its sixth annual Shred Fest on May 17, inviting residents of Eugene and Springfield to drop off up to six boxes of sensitive, personal documents for free, on-the-spot shredding. Hundreds of community members lined up in cars across from the Mohawk branch and in front of the corporate office to have a team of OCCU volunteers relieve them of their shredables.� At the corporate office on Chad Drive in Eugene, cars were backed up to Chad drive while two Access shred trucks ran shredding services non-stop for attendees.� 21.6 tons of sensitive documents were shredded at the event.
Putting sensitive information into the trash or recycling containers is not a secure method of disposal. Shredding sensitive papers is a much more effective way to fight fraud and prevent identity theft, a priority for both OCCU and Access. To help protect community members, all Oregon Community branches and corporate offices have shred bins for people to drop off their documents (limit one box per member) free-of-charge throughout the month of May.
