Adams DECA AwardRochester, MI. - Genisys Credit Union, which provides services to anyone who lives or works in the Lower Peninsula, recently sponsored the $500 DECA Exemplary Marketing Student Scholarship. The scholarship was awarded to Adams High School student and DECA Chapter President, Yiwei Zhang. This year, the Adams DECA club was presented with the Gimme 5 promotional award at the state level and was also recognized at the international level for increasing their membership by twenty members. The Adams DECA club was also a 2014 State Finalist in the Business Finance event at the DECA State Career Development Conference. For the promotional campaign, the club participated in community outreach programs, school-based events and communicated with their alumni members. For DECAs community service campaign, the chapter hosted a school-wide Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Miracle Minute, where they raised $5,000. This earned the chapter a ranking of 9th among all of the DECA chapters worldwide. "This has been an amazing year for Adams DECA due in part to our business partners like Genisys Credit Union. Our chapter was recognized as the Michigan DECA top contributor, with a total donation of $5000, to the MDA this year," said Vince LoPiccolo, Rochester Adams DECA teacher. "Genisys supports our fundraising efforts for the MDA. Most importantly they fund our DECA Scholarship that helps offset the costs of Higher Education for one dedicated Adams DECA student." Zhang was instrumental in the promotional and community service successes of the Adams High School DECA club. Genisys Credit Union rewarded Zhang for all of his hard work by presenting him with a $500 scholarship to use towards higher education. "Genisys Credit Union is proud of Mr. Zhang for all of his hard work in making a difference with MDA and in the community," said Linda Zabik, Manager of Public Relations & Community Involvement. "We wish him the best of luck with his future endeavors." In the fall, Zhang will be attending the University of Michigan where he has been accepted to the Ross School of Business. He is planning to study finance, a career path choice which was developed through his involvement with DECA.
