Credit Union Awards $20,000 in Scholarships

shellDeer Park, TX Annually Shell Federal Credit Union awards John Garrison Scholarships to deserving seniors.� This year, the students were required to write a 250 word essay on the subject of establish good credit. Examples were also required about developing credit history. Other criteria such as GPA, community involvement, extracurricular activities and volunteer hours play a factor in the scholarship results. In 2014, more than sixty applications were submitted for the John Garrison Scholarship and eight fortunate students were awarded $2,500. Shell FCU works with the recipients and their college, university or vocational-technical school of choice to fund the scholarships. These are the 2014 John Garrison Scholarship recipients and their college of choice for fall 2014. Ian Helaire of Clear Brook HS: University of Texas at San Antonio McKenna Parr of Deer Park HS: Trinity University Henry Garcia of La Porte HS: Texas A&M Kelsey Lindsey of Deer Park HS: Texas State University Summer Sibley of Summer Creek HS: Texas A&M William Wu of Clear Lake HS: Rice University Hannah Booher of Deer Park HS: Trinity University Ruchika Bengani of Clear Brook HS: Rice University Since 2000, Shell Federal Credit Union has awarded 79 students $179,500 in John Garrison Scholarships. The John Garrison Scholarship was established in memory of John Garrison, a dedicated Shell FCU Volunteer Board Member of over 50 years. His vision and volunteer spirit is still an inspiration for us all. Our hope is that applicants will embrace that same spirit and carry it forward into their careers and volunteerism.
