bhfcuReadiatricsRapid City, SD - In an annual push to promote childrens literacy, Black Hills Federal Credit Union employees and members spent the past two months clearing their shelves and donating storybooks to the Readiatrics book drive. In total, employees and members collected 1,633 books and $40 in cash donations. Since 2005, BHFCU has partnered with the now 13-year-old book drive. Readiatrics, which welcomes donations from several area businesses, was established to promote childrens literacy and give a good home to new and used books. The collected books are donated to the South Dakota Department of Health, which in turn, gives them to children receiving care in Rapid City, Hill City, Pine Ridge, Porcupine, Kyle and Ellsworth Air Force Base, as well as the childrens library at Storybook Island. Throughout the years, the book drive has collected more than 100,000 books for children in family or medical crisis. The Readiatrics Book Drive was carried out under the umbrella of BHFCUs Community Action Team (CAT), which is comprised of groups of employees who volunteer their time and energy to co-chair various fundraising endeavors. BHFCUs CAT embodies the credit union philosophy of "People Helping People." They are committed to improving the communities BHFCU serves and the lives of those who call the area home. Established in Rapid City in 1941, Black Hills Federal Credit Union is a member-owned, not-forprofit cooperative serving more than 58,000 members. The community-chartered credit union has Member Service Centers in Rapid City, Custer, Eagle Butte, Hot Springs, Pierre, Spearfish and Wall, South Dakota.
