Credit Union Awards $12,000 in Scholarships

Scholarship RecipientsHanscom AFB, Mass. Hanscom FCU proudly awarded $12,000 in scholarships at its 60th Annual Meeting, with $1,500 awards going to six credit union members beginning their college careers and two from a pair of local Air Force Junior ROTC units. The Condon scholarship recipients were Zikai Wang of Beavercreek, Ohio, who will attend Dartmouth College; Brendan Chin of Needham, Mass., who will attend the University of Rochester; Nathaniel Gallishaw of Seekonk, Mass.; Matthew Lau of Quincy, Mass., who will attend Northeastern University; Peter Blum of Newton, Mass.; and Jonathan Che of Acton, Mass. Named after former board member John F. Condon, a valued leader at Hanscom FCU for 26 years, the scholarships for Hanscom FCU members are awarded based on academic record, extracurricular activities and an essay. The top graduates of the Lowell High and Bedford High AFJROTC programs, Luis Morales of Lowell, Mass. and Akhileshwar Borra of Bedford, Mass., also received $1,500 scholarships. Morales will major in criminal justice at Anna Maria College while Borra is headed to UMass Amherst to study mechanical engineering and computer science. "This is another group of young people John Condon would be proud to be associated with," said Chairman of the Board Paul Marotta. "Hanscom FCU makes a lot of investments of every year, and Ill put these eight up there with any of them."
