Book Drive Somerville 2014Somerville, MA - CPCU Credit Union collected over 200 books during the month of April as part of the Massachusetts Credit Union Leagues Childrens Book Month initiative. Each year, CPCU Credit Union participates in the annual statewide book drive spearheaded by the Massachusetts Credit Union League. The League collaborates with the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless to distribute the collected books to local non-profits, low-income daycares, schools and shelters in Somerville and surrounding communities. CPCU spread the word about their collection via social media, email marketing and through the use of their community partners. This year, CPCU received a sizeable donation of over 100 books from Girl Scout Junior Troop 85314 from Somerville. The troop, led by Patricha Paul, Laura Evans and Julie Curtin, found an opportunity for their troop to participate in a community involvement activity. The girls received a badge for completing a service project and "spreading the love of reading to children who may not have books at home," noted Patricha Paul. "We are proud to participate in the annual Childrens Book Drive. The support from the community means so much and together we show our passion to foster childrens literacy. A special thank you to the local Girl Scout Troop for the generosity," commented Rui F. Domingos, Chief Executive Officer at CPCU Credit Union.
