untitledStudents from Narragansett High School in Narragansett, Rhode Island, will be learning the reality of their financial choices and making real-life decisions to help teach them financial skills during the CU4Reality Financial Literacy Fair on Wednesday, May 21, 2014. Sponsored by Westerly Community Credit Union, the CU4Reality Financial Literacy Fair is an event that will give Westerly High School students a chance to see how career selection impacts their financial well-being and their life choices. Students will create a spending plan based on a salary and career they have already researched, and juggle needs-versus-wants to make sure they are living within their means. Students will then meet with representatives from local auto dealerships, insurance agents, lenders, utility providers, retailers and others, to help them understand the real expenses they will face in adulthood and the choices theyll need to make to avoid falling in to debt. Financial literacy has been a major focus for our Credit Union for years and this program is a positive addition to our existing programs, stated Steve White, Westerly Community Credit Union President and CEO. Our hope is to teach our young adults the importance of good financial management, so they will have a financially secure adulthood. The CU4Reality Program was created by a coalition of credit unions through Americas Credit Union Museum. Directly following the Financial Literacy Fair, students will be awarded Certificates of Completion for the EverFi online Financial Education program. EverFi, an award winning web based Financial Education program, is also sponsored by the Westerly Community Credit Union. The 10-module program covers over 600 topics in areas such as Savings & Budgeting, Credit Scores, Interest Rates, Insurance & Taxes, Consumer Fraud, Investing and more. Upon completion of the course, students are awarded with a Certification in Financial Literacy.
