Credit Union Awards Scholarship

Rachel StokesSTOCKBRIDGE, GA - Georgia United Credit Union is excited to announce the winners of their 2014 scholarship programs.� A total of $12,500 was awarded and disbursed to thirteen high school seniors through the Vernon E. Carne Scholarship program and the Archbishop John F. Donoghue Catholic Scholarship program.� Thanks to all the local high school seniors who entered this years competition! This is the 20th year that Georgia United has given the Vernon E. Carne Scholarship and the 7th year for the John F. Donoghue Catholic Scholarship. A total of approximately $142,500 has been awarded to high school seniors during the tenure of both programs.� Recipients are chosen based on an essay competition with consideration given to academic accomplishments, leadership and participation in both school and community activities.� The top winners for 2014 were Colin Humble of George Walton Comprehensive High School and Joseph Long of Loganville High School, respectively. Locally, Rachel Stokes of Henry Countys Luella High School in Locust Grove, was also a scholarship recipient. Rachel is shown here with Georgia Uniteds Meg Norrell and LHS Principal Jerry Smith, Jr.
  • Rachel Stokes is the daughter of Rev. William and Anita Stokes of Locust Grove. She is a Georgia Merit Scholar, an Honor Roll student and a member of the Luella High School Student Congress, Future Educators Association, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the Spivey Hall Honors Chorus. Beyond being an extremely well-rounded "A" student and community volunteer, Rachel battles Myasthenia Gravis, a rare auto immune disease.
