railwayRichard, a member of Railway Credit Union of Mandan, ND, was shopping Sunday, March 30th at Sams Club in Bismarck. With nearly $250 worth of items in his cart, mostly supplies for his work lunches at a job that he commutes long distances to, Richard went to pay his cashier with his Railway CU Debit Card. Due to a glitch with Richards card, he was unable to complete the transaction, even though he knew he had sufficient funds in his account. As this is the only card he carries, it was looking like the only alternative was to leave his supplies behind that day. But thats not how the story turned out. Amy, a Member Services Officer at Railway Credit Union, just happened to be checking out at the register next to Richard. She was even wearing her Railway Credit Union jacket. Overhearing the problem and realizing that this was one of her members, Amy came to the rescue, offering to pay for the groceries with her own debit card until the problem could be corrected at the credit union. Amy had not met this particular member before, but she recognized his familiar debit card. "This is a great example of Railway Credit Unions corporate culture of empowering and encouraging our staff to go Above and Beyond the Normal Call of Duty for our members" says Paul Brucker, President of Railway. "Amy is a leader in instilling this in our staff, and as you can see, she not only talks the talk - she walks the walk" he added. Amy is modest about her kind gesture. "I really think any one of our staff members would have done the same thing in that moment" she said. "We have a great team and all truly care about helping our members and making a difference. Im glad we got to turn a potentially negative situation into something positive for the member."
